Technology and the can opener

Years ago my mother-in-law mentioned to us that she was having problems getting can openers to work. she couldnt get them to attach to the side of the can easily and then when she turned the handle on the side they would either spin or dig in and not open the can. my wife found an automatic can opener. All you did was set the can opener on top of the can and push a button. we tried it at home and it worked perfectly.

We gave the can opener to my mother-in-law. A short time later she called us complaining that the can opener was stuck to the top of a can and would not open it. We went over to see what the problem was. Sure enough the can opener was stuck to the top of the can. It is not an exaggeration to say that the top of the can was approximately the size of a silver dollar. It was the smallest can I've ever seen. The curvature of the can was so small that the blade on the can opener had pierced the top and gotten stuck on the tiny lip of the can.

I wrestled with it for several minutes to pry it loose. It is unclear if she ever used the can opener again. We never heard any more about it.

If there is a moral to the story feel free to comment.

Retired assassin

A Retired  American assassin has ties in Egypt. They agree to place him at an abandon outpost in the desert. They find a local woman of similar age that wants to live alone with a foreign man. There is a well, some buildings, Some underground rooms and little else. The desert is vast. There is no desire to escape it. Four times a year supplies arrive. The military contact in charge wonders what he is up to.

The assassin has largely worked at a distance. Occasionally he has worked up close. He knows the odds were stacking up against him. He wanted out.

The woman is a loner. She would prefer to live without a companion. She loves the silence of the desert, the wind. The man generally ignores her. They are getting old.  They live together in a lonely place.

Then, one day, she thinks. ...

Don't let my massive intellect scare you.

I don't know about your country but

In America the wolf is always at the door and they're breathing down your neck

Thanks for asking

No thank you. Not now.

I'm glad you asked

Yes, please.

Think about it

Think how much ink McDonald's could save if they changed the name to Don.
Instead of McD it would just be D.

Your money's no good here

Your money's no good here

I remember seeing this a few times in the movies where a darky (black person) or Mescan (hispanic) would go into a bar in the West. I wonder if that ever actually happened? Customers weren't all that abundant back then.

I wonder how many times a bunch of cowboys actually got all liquored up and shot up to town?

Payback's a bitch

Matthew 2
16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.
[17] Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,
[18] In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

Revelation 2
18] And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;
[19] I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.
[20] Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
[21] And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.
[22] Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
[23] And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
[24] But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.
[25] But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.
[26] And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
[27] And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
[28] And I will give him the morning star.
  • [29] He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Interesting

It's mildly disturbing that after looking at many blogs there is a noticeable lack of spirituality. Even some obituaries talk about friends, family and the person's interests devoid of any hint of an eternal aspect of humanity.
