Move to Las Vegas

Living in Las Vegas Nevada is worth the experience. You owe it to yourself, why not settle as many debts as possible before it's too late.

Rather than tell you what to expect, go and do these things. Move into an apartment.  Buy and live in a free standing house. Work off the strip. Work on the strip. Take a couple of courses at UNLV. Work a construction job for a while if possible. Eat cheap at a few casinos if possible. Eat fast food at big chains. Eat at some local places off the strip. For laughs, play golf at a PUBLIC course in July. Hike and snow ski at mt. Charleston. Pay someone to take you out on lake Meade on a fancy ski boat with a big V8 engine.  Feel the wind on your face, in case you No longer have hair.  Rent a sail boat large enough to spend the night on.  Do so.

Buy a used dirt bike. Take it apart. Do a rebuild on it using those ridiculously over priced factory parts or go with JC Whitney. You live in the desert. Get out there. If you are over 40 buy a used off road vehicle. Do some work on it. Have someone help you that you can ride or drive with. Optional: convince the spouse to let you do the bike rebuild in the living room. The desert is miserably hot.  You might even downscale this to a dirt bicycle. If you are a guy offer to pull up the carpet and paint the floor with garage floor paint, then buy new carpet when you're done!

This part assumes you are Christian. If you have a different faith, then apply the general idea of becoming involved in two different flavors. Join and attend a Catholic church. Attend some church functions. Get involved to a reasonable degree. Then join and attend a protestant church. Attend some church activities, maybe go on a retreat.

Initially dress like you always dress. Notice what people wear in the casinos. Pick a couple of looks that catch your eye. Then, when on the strip or downtown wear those clothes. Look at yourself in the mirror and think why do people do this?

Play blackjack and win. Think, I'm a winner, losing is for other people. Feel powerful and lucky.  Then lose, feel small and vulnerable. Maybe just once lose every penny you have. Go in the big gold trimmed bathroom and look in the mirror. Feel betrayed and silly even stupid that you worked so hard for that money and you threw it away. Remember, when you go home that night It won't involve flying back to LA.

DO NOT drink excessively and stay completely away from drugs.

King Solomon and wisdom

Solomon had access to about 1000 women. God warned the kings of Israel against this, but somehow all the wisdom any human can handle could not turn Solomon aside.  How is this?

In proverbs wisdom is referred to as feminine. This seems to be the catch. Wisdom must be tempered with God's law and instruction. Using wisdom alone Solomon did what made sense to most men. His foreign wives gave him the illusion of peaceful associations with the surrounding nations.

Of course he could have been just as happy with a couple of hundred Israelite women, but his ego and wisdom pushed him on.

My wife

Years ago I was driving a minivan about 90 miles a day back and forth to work. After while my wife asked me does it bother you that you're driving that minivan with only you and it all those miles. I said no. We didn't really carry the conversation on but my thought on it is I bought the thing I put the gas in it I paid the taxes on it I put the tires and then I put the maintenance into it I put everything else into it

Uneasy feelings

Snow ski dream

Two different scenes where guys have taken a fall in fresh snow. Sun shining. They both have snow on face and big smiles.

Next scene night. Several cars have crashed in town due to cold icy conditions. I'm on foot. Parked car and walking because roads too dangerous.  Three guys run up to help a gold car that was rear-ended. They tell driver to restart engine. Engine starts and they spray de-icer on headlights and windshield.  One guy says, that should do it. The other guy says it's 155 degrees below zero. They don't have hats on, just winter coats.

155 degrees below zero sounds sort of ridiculous. This whole dream seems detached from reality, but with normal winter events in it.

 Long long ago in the Wild Wild West.

 The year, back in the day.

The place, Sin City and Pitbull Haven. More specifically our front door.

 Generally America has had the attitude that we should take the war to their front door. Unfortunately on this fateful Saturday morning the war came to us.

Something crashed against our front screen door and mom cried out for dad. I ran to the entry way and saw that a mass of dogs had partially come through the lower screen door aluminum panel and mom was pushing the panel back.

I ran out the back door and found a steel fence post on my way through the side gate.  Two pitbulls had our German shepherd down and had dragged him to the middle of the driveway. They were near the middle of the closed garage door.

One had T-man by the throat. The other was attacking the rear.  The first hasty blow hit the back of the head and stopped with a thud on the back. None of the dogs were growling or making any vocal noises at this time.  There was no reaction to the first blow, nothing. It was so unexpected it was startling. Adrenalin was screaming through my veins. I was on a mission.

The only sound was the labored breathing of the pitbulls as they adjusted their grip attempting to tear through the thick German Shepard coat.

I knew the danger of engaging pit bulls in combat. Back then their deadly attacks on children was on the rise. The accounts were in the papers of muscle tissue torn from faces and limbs. But something in me snapped. The next blow was carefully calculated and landed squarely on the skull. Wham! Thud!


The dog on T-man's throat, The dog getting hit, let go, stood up, and faced me. This was it. My arms and legs went numb. We locked eyes. The steel pipe was  already raised, but it went back a few more inches for the maximum force.

The deadly canine turned and trotted off down the street. Is there a moral to this half told story? Leave more suitable weapons lying around?

Though mortally wounded, the retreat was silent, unhurried and composed.

if you read the last five chapters of job over and over again a bunch of times God never really explains anything to Job. God makes a big entrance. God verbally slaps Job around a bunch, ignores his wife, and then accepts Job's apology. It just seems kind of weird. Why doesn't God apologize to job? And who wants 10 more kids and a bunch more junk anyway? When does Job get a break?
